In the end, just as Indiana Jones could never turn down the opportunity to search for the Holy Grail, I could no less turn down the chance to work for myself on something I truly love, no matter how safe the alternative might be. When I’m old and dying, I plan to look back on my life and say “wow, that was an adventure,” not “wow, I sure felt safe.
Tom Preston Werner, the co-founder of GitHub, on turning down $300k from Microsoft to take a chance at his own start-up.  Check out his whole (really well written) story.

My Startup Story: StartSomeGood (The Guardian)

I usually don’t share these kinds of articles, but I’m fond of this one, plus there’s the added bonus of The Guardian “translating” my article into British English — the first time I’ve ever referenced my “Mum.”

In life, you generally get rewarded for taking risks.
Mattan Griffel, in a great post, “On Quitting.”  Hat tip to Mr. Clem Auyeung for sharing it.

I know many of you have probably seen this already, but it may just be the best thing I’ve read all year.  It’s created by the guys behind Holstee.com (fellow Sandboxers!) as a reminder for what they want to live for and I find it incredibly inspirational.

…it’s about living meaningfully well. Its purpose is not merely passive, slack-jawed “consuming” but living: doing, achieving, fulfilling, becoming, inspiring, transcending, creating, accomplishing — all the stuff that matters the most.
One of the best pieces I’ve read all year, Umair Haque’s article “Is a Well-Lived Life Worth Anything?“   I really believe we’re at a crucial tipping point in history right now, and writings like this one will help guide us to a new (and better) future.

It didn’t work out for Rick Neuheisel as UCLA’s coach, but he remained the epitome of class even after being fired.  A fitting tribute after his last practice, being carried off the field by his players while singing Mighty Bruins.  Check out the video of his last practice interview here.  Go Bruins!

Making Two Huge Leaps

Within 24 hours I made two pretty big leaps: one metaphorical, one quite literal.

On Friday I made the commitment to leave my full-time job to focus all of my energy on StartSomeGood. The next morning, I was 11,000 feet in the air jumping out of a plane, my first time ever skydiving. Read More

Hiking Ulriken in Bergen, Norway

Though there’s a cable car that takes you to the top of Ulriken, the tallest of seven mountains surrounding Bergen, my friend and I decided to hike up to the peak. It was one of the best decisions of our trip. Read More

Burps, Bathrooms and Sunsets

Everyone says that to experience humanity, you’ve got to ride an Indian train. Well, now I can say that I have — and I have lived to tell about it. Read More
