Tumblr is on Fire (via TechCrunch)

Tumblr got love today from TechCrunch, and for good reason: it now has over 1.5 BILLION page views per month.  I’ve been a happy Tumblr(er?) for almost two years now, and consider it to be by far the best platform out there.  It’s simple, slick and easily customizable. The best part, though, is the great community bolstered by Tumblr’s features that promote sharing and interaction.

How about you, why do you choose Tumblr?

Why Tumblr is Better than Twitter

Oprah joined Twitter (which she doesn’t even use anymore), and because of this a million soccer moms signed up, all of whom now think they are “totally web 2.0” because they get tweets from Oprah (non-existant), CNN breaking news, and Whole Foods.

Rick Sanchez of CNN “utilizes” Twitter, which just means that during his show he reads two tweets: one that says Obama is totally right, and one that says Obama is totally wrong, and because of this, he thinks that we are “having a true two-way communication” and that he is now “Mr. New Media.”

On Tumblr you don’t get randomly followed by HotttMama69, SocialMediaConsultant, or PRLIFECOACH.

Tumblr users don’t engage in debates about what the best client to use is, whereas Twitterers constantly debate the relative merits of Tweetdeck, Tweetie, Twitterfon, Twitteriffic, SimplyTweet, Twittelator, Twitterena, and TwitterWorld — arguing which Twitter client best meets their Tweeting needs.

Tumblr doesn’t have all of the ridiculous memes of Twitter, which now include such brilliance as: #MeowMonday (your cat meowing in 140 characters or less?), #followTuesday (because one day of following on Friday clearly was not enough), #WoofWednesday (lest the dogs be left out of this social media revolution), and of course, #3WordsAfterSex (hot).

No followers arms-race (both the Ashton “pleeeeease help me get to 1 million” variety, as well as the “I’m super important ‘cause almost 100 people read my tweets about buying laundry detergent” kind).

What have I left out?

Twitter is Done, Tumblr is Next (Link to Article)

Check out this article.  I totally agree —I’m pretty over Twitter (here’s looking at you, Oprah, and Ashton) — but absolutely love Tumblr: it’s the best publishing platform I’ve ever used.

Blog Redesign

I just updated the design of my Tumblr (yes, I know I should have been studying for my quant midterm Thursday, but still).  I’d love any feedback you have on it (especially from my more design-conscious friends).  Thanks!

How to Import Twitter feeds to Tumblr without “@ messages”

I’ve decided to import my twitter feed into Tumblr thanks to the awesome feed aggregator.  Unfortunately, it brings in all of your tweets, and it seemed awkward to have messages directed at someone show up.  So, I thought I would share how I figured out to import “@-less tweets” into my tumblr:

1.  Go to Yahoo Pipes (http://www.pipes.yahoo.com).

2.  Go to your twitter page and copy the RSS link location at the bottom of your page.

3.  “Fetch feed” in Yahoo pipes, and paste in the Twitter RSS link.

4.  Create a filter, and block out any items that contain “@”

5.  Connect the pipes, grab your newly created yahoo pipes RSS link, and feed it into Tumblr!

Hope this helps!
