Inside the Secret World of Trader Joe's →
Check out this illuminating piece by Fortune magazine on hands down my favorite grocery store: Trader Joe’s. The article is a good balance of prose describing the Trader Joe’s experience and analysis of the business model. For example, on TJ’s limited selection:
“Studies have found that buyers enjoy purchases more if they know the pool of options isn’t quite so...

Ask UnpoppedCollar: Part II
Thanks for following along, LackingContext! My recent travels were essentially an “I survived grad school!” trip to celebrate the end of my thesis, econometrics (forever) and problem sets. I traveled with my friend I’ve known since Gymboree and we wanted to go someplace we had never been. I’m all for random adventures, and when I pitched the idea of Scandinavia and the...

Here are 5 of my favorite spots to check out (but shhh…don’t tell too many people!)

Our Building at the National Building Museum

Needing to compete with the 5-year-olds around us, we decided instead of building the standard huge tower of blocks around us, we would create a model of Bunche Hall at UCLA. We only made it to 3 of the 12 stories because we felt bad stealing all of the blocks...

DC's Jazz in the Garden
Sure, people in DC love to complain about how hot and humid it is here in July, but Summers in the District also bring something else: Jazz in the Garden. Every Friday evening, nearly every twenty-something (it seems) in DC heads out to the Sculpture Garden for a makeshift picnic-happy-hour. It’s hard to imagine a better way to start the weekend than this.
Bros in the Garden.
